The Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office cooperates with the Missouri Division of Child Support Enforcement to establish and enforce orders of child support and paternity. Ben Gray is the assistant prosecutor who handles the child support cases for the prosecutor’s office. Donna Price and Faye Mueller are our child support investigators.
The Prosecuting Attorney’s Office only works cases that have been referred to us by the Missouri Division of Child Support Enforcement. We do not initiate our own investigations.
A custodial parent needing child support services should contact the Missouri Division of Child Support Enforcement in the county where she lives. In Cape Girardeau County, that will be: Child Support Enforcement Unit, 710 Southern Expressway, Cape Girardeau, MO, 63703, (573) 290-5720. Interstate requests by non-resident custodial parents can be made through their local Division of Child Support Enforcement or directly to the Missouri Division of Child Support Enforcement in Jefferson City.
When the Division of Child Support Enforcement refers a case to us, we will pursue both civil and criminal avenues to help the victim. In some cases this will mean filing a criminal nonsupport charge. In other situations it will mean filing a civil contempt motion. In appropriate cases it will mean seeking court orders establishing paternity or enforcing support orders from other states.
