On March 30, 1994, the Major Case Squad was activated to investigate the death of Gretchen A. Starks, 29, who had died from a gunshot wound.

At the close of the investigation, the Major Case Squad concluded that Gretchen A. Starks had been killed by the accidental discharge of a gun being handled by a juvenile family member.
