On August 6, 1991, the Major Case Squad was called out to investigate the murder of Inez McMillan. Her body had been found in an area initially thought to be located in Bollinger County.

Shortly after the Major Case Squad assembled, it was discovered that the body had been found in Stoddard County, not Bollinger County. Thus, the Cape Girardeau/Bollinger County Major Case Squad did not have jurisdiction to investigate the crime.

The Squad was immediately deactivated and the investigation was turned over to Stoddard County authorities.
