Bobby L. Smith Charged With Forgery &

Attempted Fraudulent Procurement of Credit

On March 14, 2001, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office charged Bobby L. Smith, 22, of 111 N. Clark, #1, Cape Girardeau, Missouri, with the class C felony of forgery and the class A misdemeanor of attempted fraudulent procurement of credit for allegedly using stolen identification from two different victims at Plaza Tire Service on March 5, 2001.

The forgery count charges that Smith, with the purpose to defraud, signed the name of Matthew Scott Rayfield on an application for credit and on two sales receipts for tires worth approximately $700.00 at Plaza Tire Service in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on March 5, 2001.

The misdemeanor count charges that Smith attempted the fraudulent procurement of credit on March 5, 2001, by willfully and knowingly encouraging a female acquaintance to use the name, date of birth and social security number of Heather D. Hill on an application for credit with Plaza Tire Service in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in an attempt to obtain credit ad with the consent or authorization of Heather D. Hill.

The case is being investigated by Detective Bill Bohnert of the Cape Girardeau Police Department and is still under investigation.

A warrant for the arrest of Bobby L. Smith was issued by Associate Circuit Judge Gary A. Kamp on Wednesday morning, March 14, 2001.

A charge of a criminal offense is merely an accusation. A person is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
