Larry H. Ferrell, the twenty-ninth prosecuting attorney, was born in Cape Girardeau on August 6, 1954. A graduate of Patton High School and Southeast Missouri State University, he earned his law degree from the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1980. He was an assistant prosecuting attorney from 1980 to 1983. During his term as prosecuting attorney he was the Vice-President of the Missouri Prosecuting Attorney's Association. He has served as Special Assistant Attorney General of Missouri to assist other counties with prosecutions. He was a member of the Governor's Crime Commission. He has taught as an instructor at the Criminal Justice Department at Southeast Missouri State University. After a stint in private practice, he accepted a position as an Assistant U. S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, a position he still holds.
