ROBERT BURETT OLIVER, III

Robert Burett Oliver, III, the seventeenth prosecuting attorney, was born October 15, 1911 in Cape Girardeau, the grandson of R. B. Oliver. He attended SEMO University and received his bachelor's and law degrees from the University of Missouri. From 1935 to 1949 he was a member of the Oliver & Oliver law firm with his father and uncle. He was appointed prosecuting attorney in 1938 to complete the term of Edward L. Drum. He was city attorney for Cape Girardeau until he resigned to enter active duty in the U.S. Army in 1942. He served 19 months in China, attaining the rank of major. He became Circuit Judge of Cape Girardeau County in January 1949 and resigned in 1952 to join the Skelly Oil Company in Kansas City. He was later employed buy the Navy Department in Washington, D.C. He died January 27, 1980.
