STEPHEN E. STROM
1961 - 1962

Stephen E. Strom, twenty-fourth prosecuting attorney, was born in Cape Girardeau on December 22, 1931, the son of former prosecuting attorney Elmer A. Strom. He graduated from the University of Missouri with an A.B. in 1953 and an L.L.B. in 1955. He was a member of the Order of the Coif and Chairman of the Missouri Law Review. He served one term as prosecuting attorney. He prosecuted Sammy Aire Tucker for the murder of Cape Girardeau police officer Donald Crittendon. Tucker was the only murderer from Cape Girardeau County ever to die in the Missouri gas chamber while it was in use from 1938 to 1988. He was a member of the Cape Girardeau City Council from 1968 to 1971. He recently retired from his law practice and focuses his attention now on real estate development.
