The Prosecuting Attorney's Office
prosecutes violations of state law occurring within Cape Girardeau
County, Missouri. The offenses include everything from traffic
offenses to murder. The office handles approximately 2,100 criminal
cases per year, not counting the approximately 5,000 traffic
tickets issued each year.The
Prosecuting Attorney is an elected position. H. Morley Swingle has
been the Prosecuting Attorney since January 1, 1987.Swingle's staff includes five assistant
prosecutors, a criminal investigator, a bad check administrator,
two child support investigators, a crime victim advocate, an office
manager (supervising secretary), four legal secretaries, a
restitution clerk, and two filing clerks. The staff at the
prosecutor's office is committed to aggressive, fair and impartial
prosecution of criminal laws, without regard to the race, wealth,
