Julie A. Hunter Biography

Julie A. Hunter began working as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney for Cape Girardeau County on September 27,1999.

Julie is originally from Michigan. After earning undergraduate degrees in both Broadcast & Cinematic Arts and Political Science from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, she graduated with her law degree from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan in 1998. She ranked 16^th in her class of 140 and served on the school’s Law Review. She was a Moot Court semi-finalist and won awards for Advocacy and Professional Responsibility.

After graduating from law school, she served a year as a Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Thomas L. Ludington, a Circuit Judge in Midland County, Michigan. She later moved to Missouri, the home of her husband and his family.

During her years as a prosecutor, Julie has tried virtually every type of case. "I give her many of the violent crimes and child molestation cases," Morley Swingle says, "because she is good at them. She is one of the best trial lawyers in Southeast Missouri."

Julie also handles a large number of domestic assault cases, and co-authoried a law journal article on the topic. "Julie is not afraid to try a tough case," said Swingle. "A prosecutor who brags that he has never lost a case has not tried many domestic assaults. Julie is an effective advocate for the people of Cape Girardeau County and I am lucky to have her at my office."

"I like being a prosecutor," Julie says. "Criminal practice is clearly the most exciting area of law, and being on the side of the prosecution allows me to sleep well at night."
