ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH

The environmental sanitarians are deputized agents of the Missouri Department of Health. Their responsibilities include:

  • INSPECTING Restaurants, taverns, schools, senior citizens centers, Head Start and day care centers, public swimming pools and lodging establishments.

  • RESPONDING to questions about private water and sewage.

  • ADVISING people about public health (rabies, indoor air, etc.)

  • COLLECTING private water samples upon request.

  • PROVIDING environmental education.

  • APPROVING private water and sewage facilities for Farmer's Home Administration, Federal Housing Authority, VA and upon request, individual home buyers.

  • INVESTIGATING complaints which indicate public health problems such as foodborne illnesses.

  • ISSUING notices of violation when other options fail.
