How to Install Internet Software
for Show-Me Net under Windows 95
Install Microsoft Dial Up Networking
Warning: At the end of this step you will likely be asked to supply the CD
or the disks that has Windows 95 on it. However, if you purchased your machine new with
Windows 95 already preinstalled, these files are probably on your hard drive. If your
Windows 95 installation is on CD or disks, find them before continuing.
| First install the Microsoft Dialer by running the Internet Wizard.
From
Start, select Run and type inetwiz. [If the file is not found, you
will have to install Dial-up Networking by hand or get the Wizard from a Microsoft
Internet Kit. You will probably have to get help.]
Click OK.
|
|
Click Next at the Welcome to Internet Setup screen to begin your install.
Indicate that you already have an account with a different service provider. Click Next
again.
You may choose to use Internet Mail or Outlook Express which are included with Windows 95. Or, you may use Pegasus, Eudora, or any other e-mail program which is available for
free on the Internet. See http://www.showme.net/members/links.htm#Software
|
Fill out the name of your service provider as indicated.
Click Next.
|
Enter the appropriate phone number:
- Jackson -- 204-0040
- Benton -- 545-3922
- Perryville -- 517-0400
- Marble Hill -- 238-1414
- Patton -- 866-0026
- Advance -- 722-3422
- Pocahontas -- 833-6030
- Oran -- 262-8820
- Ste. Genevieve -- 535-2020
|
|
Be sure the Bring up terminal window after dialing box is NOT checked.
Click Next
|
Enter the userid and password that were given to you. Ignore
any suggested value and use the userid that we gave you on a slip of paper. Your
actual name will not work!
Your userid will be all in lowercase. Your
password will usually be in mixed case. If you get the capitalization wrong, you will not be able to connect.
Click Next. |
At the IP Address screen, indicate that My Internet Service Provider
automatically provides me one.
Congratulations! You have finished the Dial Up Networking install.
Now when you press Finish,
you will likely have to put in your CD that has Windows 95 on it, or insert the proper
diskettes. You will also probably be told to restart Windows. (Even if you were not
told to restart Windows, it is probably a good idea to do so.)
If everything went okay, you can now double click on The Internet icon on your
desktop. Your computer should begin dialing and Microsoft's Internet Explorer will start
up. You are now on the Internet.
We recommend you set your options to have http://www.showme.net
as your start page. At least, you should visit here every few days for Show-Me Net
announcements and useful information.
