This is the day the lord has made, Let us rejoice and be glad in it!
From Our Pastor
After serving over 31 years as a UMC pastor I retired.
I have come out of retirement to serve Zion United Methodist Church of Old Appleton Mo.
My last appointment was Sedgewickville and Crossroads UMC.
Born and raised in St. Louis and St. Louis County Mo. I graduated from Ritanour high school in 1962. While attending Northeast Missouri State University, I met Susan K. Mitchell from Kahoka, Missouri. We were married on September 4, 1966 in the Kahoka UMC. We both graduated from Northeast in 1967, receiving B.S. in Education.
After graduation, I served two years active duty in the U.S. Army from 1967-69, spending a one year tour of duty in Vietnam. The next five years I taught high school biology. Four of the five years at Kahoka and one year at Carthage, Illinois before heeding God’s call into full time Ministry.
In 1972, I received my Masters of Arts Degree from Northeast Missouri University in Kirksville and in 1978, My Master of Divinity Degree from Midwestern Seminary in Kansas City. I was ordained a Deacon in 1976 and an Elder in 1979, and I am a member of the Missouri Conference of the United Methodist Church in full connection.
My wife Susan, taught high school mathematics in the Harmony School System in Iowa while I was in service. She is my helpmate in life and in the ministry. We will celebrate our 42nd anniversary this year. We have two daughters, Melissa and Angela.
I’m pleased to be your new pastor. I look forward to getting to know each of you better. May we each learn something from each other and all grow in our Christian faith. Thank you for making Susan and I feel welcome at Zion UMC.
