Recently, there has been much interest in unique domain names.  Although the Show-Me Net cannot offer virtual domain names we can point to possible low-cost solutions for organizations that want a unique domain name and still keep their web site on the Show-Me Net server at no cost. Organizations can:
1. Select a company that offers both domain registration and redirection services for a minimal yearly fee, or
2. Register their own domain name and select a company that offers redirection services
Redirection.net is an example of a company that offers both domain name registration and redirection services for a modest yearly fee of $15. More information is available on their web site at http://www.redirection.net/faq.html.
If your organization prefers to register its own domain name, it needs to contact InterNIC (the domain name registrar) at http://www.internic.net/index.html   InterNIC requires a fee of$70.00 for the first two years, and $35.00 per year afterwards.
InterNIC will request you to submit primary and secondary DNS settings. The DNS setting you need to provide are those of the redirection company that will host your unique domain name (i.e., redirection.net http://www.redirection.net/)
Once you have registered the domain name you need to contact a company that offers redirection services like redirection.net and ask them to redirect the new domain address to the server where the information is actually hosted (in your case www.showme.net).
Please remember to include a link back to Show-Me Net's homepage http://www.showme.net  at the bottom of your front page.
We hope the information above will help you establish a more visible presence on the Internet.
