As most of you are aware, since our last Committee Meeting, Mr. Hampton has decided to step down from his position as Scoutmaster.  This decision was not made lightly, but with the needs of his family and the needs of the Troop being carefully weighed. Mr. Hampton won’t be holding the position of scoutmaster but still plans to have an active role in the Troop and with our sons.   We are truly grateful to him for his years of service and tireless effort to see “his” scouts reach Eagle.

Mr. Chris Wessel has stepped down as Assistant Scoutmaster of Troop 5 to take on the Scoutmaster position of a Troop in Chaffee, MO.  We are sorry to see him go, he and his family offered a lot to Troop 5 during the time they were with us.  We Congratulate Chris and wish his family our best with their new Troop.

I.                   Committee Reports

II.                Old Business

A.     Thanks to all the scouts and parents who participated in some way, in the VFW dedication on Saturday.  Scouts were needed to set out flags and adults and scouts were needed to help in the parking lot.

B.     The Hahn State Park campout on the 16th of April, may need to begin on Friday evening the 15th as all regular campsites have been taken.  The remaining campsites are first come first served.  There will be more details on this campout in the Troop meeting.

C.     Trade-O-Ree was held on March 11th and 12th.  Thank you again, Mr. Hinton for coordinating this event. Mr. Hampton reported that the community participation in this event was poor.  He has several ideas to improve Trade-O-Ree in the future, but would like the input of the parent committee as to whether or not Troop 5 wants to be involved in Trade-O-Ree in the future.  He will meet with us this evening.

D.    Scout Camp forms were passed out to the Assistant Scoutmasters.  Scout Camp is June 19-25th.  A  fee of $140.00  is due by April 27th for all those interested in attending camp.

The M.S. walk is April 10th from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.  We need 8-12 scouts and 4-5 adults to participate.  See me if you are interested.

Webelos weekend will be held the weekend of the 22nd and 23rd of October.  Anyone interested in helping with this event please see me.

The Dragon Patrol needs an adult leader.  If no leader comes forward, they will be integrated into another patrol.

Camporee is scheduled for April 30-May 1st.  It will be held on the Seminary grounds in Perryville, MO.  Check-in is between 5p.m.  and 8p.m. on Friday.  Checkout is between 7 a.m. and 9a.m. on Sunday.  Cost is $2.50 per scout.  There are prerequisites for the Veterinary Medicine Merit Badge.  Each scout will write a 300 word (min.) paper describing the housing, feeding, watering, exercising, and grooming of a pet or farm animal.  Include troop number, patrol and scouts name on paper.  It is due at check-in.  The second pre-requisite is visiting a veterinarian to discuss their work, or have a veterinarian visit a troop meeting.  Scout leaders need to sign a form indicating that this requirement has been fulfilled.

Boys still interested in completing the salesmanship Merit Badge need to contact Rhonda Wessel.  She is willing to come to a Troop meeting to help the boys finish this badge.

The family weekend at camp SEMO has been scheduled for August 12-14.  A deposit has been paid. ($330.00).  We need to decide if we want to do the family weekend, or if we need to cancel.

Camp Ondessonk will remain on the schedule for May 14, 2005.  It is graduation weekend at Central but since only a few were affected, this date was not changed.

The status of the high adventure trip to “The Florida National High Adventure Sea Base” is uncertain.  I will get back to you on this.

New Business

Mr. Mark Kinder has taken on the position of Assistant Scoutmaster of the Eagles Patrol.

Junior Leadership Training is available for two dates this summer, June 26th – July 2nd and July 10th – 16th.  The cost is $160.00 per scout.

I need someone to volunteer to print the programs for the Court of Honor.  Please see me.  We need to have someone in place by the next meeting to do this.

Mr. Hampton wanted me to check with the committee to see if we would be interested in doing a Pagoda Gardens gift certificate fundraiser.

Our committee, or subcommittee, will be involved in finding a new Scoutmaster.  An invitation has been extended to Troop 5 Assistant Scoutmasters to apply for the position but as of Sunday, I haven’t heard of anyone being interested.  VFW representative Mr. Bill Humphries and other Troop 5 leaders have submitted names for the position.  I will have more on this at our next meeting.
